Soooo, inspired by the boards here to submit my first fish to the PA angler award program I took my only chromer of the year to BAC and got it weighed in.

I got my award today and it came for a brook trout, haha.

Nice patch and award although I'm thinking a 30 inch 10 lb brookie should've made more waves than a just a patch.

Anyone else try for any awards yet?

patch for that.

I think I might need to post an appology to the PFBC.  I reread my certificate and I believe the brook trout patch is the only one they send out this season.

Can anyone confirm that?

I was really hoping to get a patch with some steel on it, and I kinda expected it to be specific to 2008, but it just has a pic of a brookie on it.

The state fish is the brook trout and every patch they give out at this time has a brookie on it. As long as your certificate says steelhead on it all should be good then. Since I got my fisrt ever award from pa I have seen 3 different types of patches. What I always though they should dowas give out the main patch plus a cheveron naming the speices of fish you got it for. This is what the pathes for the in-fisherman awards look like. You will get a patch like bing baits has for an advatar plus a cheveron patch trimed in red with red lettering on yellow border with the fish speices on it.

Can you take measurments and a picture and submit that for an angler award that way you could release the fish unharmed and still qualify for the award......

To confirm the earlier post, they are definitely all brook trout.  I got mine this year for a big largemouth I caught in August, and it was a bookie on the patch.

Thanks for the updates on the patches.  I thought they messed up, but I shoulda known the govt. doesn't do that.

That kinda takes the fun out of it, cause I wanted to get a patch for each species.  Dunno if it'd be worth it to chase the paper awards or not.

For the In-Fisherman awards, do you need to be a member or anything?

no you do not have to be a member to get an award from in-fisherman.If you do get largest of the year you will get a special certifacate and a pin. normal awards are just the patch and species cheveron no certifacate..also if you are in top 5 per species per region each year you will get your name in the magazines yearly award issue..below is what it looks like to have your name in a national magazine..yes my name is listed 3 times for coho ...king and steelhead.

and here is what a certifacte fromthen looks like..

Eggy is right. You don't have to be a member.
I've got 6 In-Fisherman awards.  Musky, SM Bass(2), LM Bass, Rainbow Trout(30" Palomino),Crappie. Got my name in the Magazine 3 times ( thought that was kinda cool.).. Twice for SM Bass and once for the trout.. The Palomino, the Crappie and 1 SM Bass were the only kept fish, the others were all C&R...I was working my way through the species chart to try and get an award for each...

awesome guys, thanks for the input and furthermore congrats on the fish!  I just went and found the In Fisherman application so I think I'll send my chromer into them as well and get that award.  Then I think I am gonna try to work my way through the species charts as well.

It'll give me and the kids something extra to shoot for.

Thanks again for the help.

I did not know about the in fisherman awards.  Thanks for pointing that out.  It makes me kinda wish I kept pictures of those bass and a few trout I got to see how I matched up.
