hi guys ive got a question about the river between franklin and emlenton. im planning a trip out this way and was wondering the best way to go about it. i have a 14' carolina skiff w a 9.9 honda and a tiller trolling motor. i launched in emlenton once before a couple years ago and headed up stream but had to push the boat upstream through a long set of shallow riffles(before i had the trolling motor). id like to launch in franklin and drive my trailer down to emlenton, and fish from franklin down to emlenton. anyone know how long this trip would take? or is there a better ramp closer to dotters eddie? thanks, any advice is greatly appreciated.

I know by canoe it is a 3hr ride from Franklin to Sandycreek and another 3hrs to Kennerdell. To Emlenton by canoe is probably 9-10 hrs at least from Franklin. You could launch at Sandycreek (Fishermans Cove) or at Kennerdell. If you need directions to these launches, let me know.

I would be afraid to take that long of a float with a glass boat now, the river is back down to just about summer level. There are quite a few places that you will have to drag the boat over shallow areas.

Yeah that is questionable at best with a fiberglass boat . I've floated that stretch many times and never all in one day . It is 37 miles better navigated by an aluminum (small) boat or canoe . It is 6 hours to Kennerdell and another 8 hours to emlenton give or take an hour if the wind is against you . The wind usually slows you up in that section and a trolling motor is an excellent choice for the long slow pools you will find near / below Kennerdell. We usually stayed overnight there around Kennerdell in a camping area that is marked on the western side of the river . You cannot miss it. A cable crossing is marked there and the hill is steep with a nice section of pines.I cannot recollect if it is before or after kennerdel but it is OK . I enjoy camping on the islands alot better but be mindful of bees & raccoons .. The only downfall to camping on an island is usually firewood must be gathhered from elsewhere LOL

the fishing is excellent for smallmouth , walleye , musky . I usually hammer the bass / skis with pumpkin seed rubber 7" worms works rigged with a 2ot hook & wire Leader !( no weight) The PFBC watches that strtch pretty good so be mindful of em . Seen plenty of bald eagles on that stretch and many camps to stop for a party at ; just swing in usually folks will offer you a beer & conversation . Nice stretch for doing whatever ; also watch for the occasional drunk & disorderly boater they can be discourteous at times . Good luck - DC

Its about 35 miles by river from Franklin to Emlenton.  I ran it when I had my jet and it's a nice trip.  The above comments were correct and I'll add a little.

Plan for an all day trip but you can make it easily in one day using caution at the riffles (no motoring through there) although as ready2fish mentioned it's summer pool and you risk some scraping.  Check the river levels closely before you launch.

Not sure how you plan to shuttle vehicles but park where people can easily see your vehicle in order to avoid losing your catalytic converter.

Using the 9.9 through the dead pools will hasten your trip a lot and you can use the trolling motor to keep yourself within casting distance of the banks.

I have no idea where dotters eddy is so I can't advise on that.  Sounds like a nice trip.  Enjoy!

I think the camping area your referring to is Danners Landing? It is a mile or two above Kennerdell bridge if I remember correctly.

Just a heads up.  If I were you I wouldn't leave a vehicle parked there.  I was fishing with a friend a few weeks ago and someone yanked his catalytic converter out from under his van after he parked at the cove.

Anoher tip, the stretch between Franklin and Fishermans Cove has some great fishing!
