By the way, just wanted to make sure...it is legal to fish there this time of year right? It's not a tributary of any trout stocked waters is it?

If you are asking about Acme Dam off Rt 31 west of Donegal. Yes, you are allowed to fish it. No, it is not connected to a trout stream.

Well it is legal to fish Acme Dam. But the dam itself is on Jacobs Creek - which is a stocked trout stream a couple miles below the dam.

Yeah Acme Dam is part of a flood control scheme that has been planned in the Jacobs Creek watershed for many years to protect primarily Scottdale and other downstream communities. Bridgeport Dam, outside Mount Pleasant is another one. Greenlick Dam, in Jacobs Creek park (how's that for confusing) is part of the plan too. And yet one more is still planned on Brush Run, east of Mount Pleasant. That's the little stream below the old Lennox Plant. Whether it ever gets done is anybody's guess.

Went out there today with some chicken livers but didn't stay to long because it was cold and windy. Didn't catch anything. There were a lot of other guys fishing but I didn't see anyone catching anything.

Ive caught a couple nice cats up there,  it would be nice to try them after dark but that curfew doesnt permit fishing after dark, maybe for the best...i guess

Acme Dam,aka (Chestnut Ridge Park) is a Westm'd County Parks Lake. It is opened to night fishing if you have a night fishing permit & a lantern . btw the yearly permit is good for all of Westm'd  Parks lakes for fishing only.    sam

You can get them at the Westm'd Parks office on Donahue Rd. , or at either Twin Lakes boat house or Northmoreland boat house & I would think at Cedar Creek Park. $3 per year  btw I think that you also would need one to fish at night at Bridgeport Dam on the boat ramp side as that side of the lake is in westm'd Co. also. If you go to any of the above lake that have a boat house there are free maps & brouchures with all the info.   sam

Mountain Man and Carpstalker, I don't know if there's any carp in there or not. I'm not certain on this, but I'm willing to bet that the bottom of the lake is covered with heavy vegetation which would make carping next to impossible. That's just what I've always assumed judging by what it looks like along the shores. And Mr. Crappie, thanks for the info on the night fishing permits. I'll have to get myself one.

Yes, there are carp. I've seen them myself while scuba diving and no, scuba is not permitted there.  I didn't realize that until after the fact and did some research. The bottom is heavily covered with vegetation , but I do not remember the type. It was very long resembling Anachris. There also was a good healthy population of largemouth and an incredible amount of perch with a good mix of crappie and bluegill. The parking lot is much improved since the reconstruction was done a number of years ago and there is a decent bait shop on RT 31 called Reds . If you get off of the Turnpike [Donegal Exit] and exit to the right to get to Acme, Reds is past Acme which is on the left. I'm guessing Reds is 1-3 miles past the Acme sign. There is a sign for Acme on the left and it is near an old white building that looks like it was a church at one time. I believe it is labeled as a Community Center now. Hope this helps. It is very easy to find.

Ill be there late in the evening into the night to avoid the crowds. If you see a big guy in a camo fleece jacket stop & say hi.
