Tourney was held in Pennsylvania waters of Lake Erie on Saturday the 28th.  45 teams entered with a maximum of 9 walleyes allowed to be weighed in per team and each walleye had to be a minimum of 18" long.
Tough fishing right now across most of the east central and eastern basin.  Warm water blown in from a CONSTANT regime of westerlies has fish scattered across the water column from top to bottom.  Fish can be found as shallow as 18 feet of water as deep as 75 feet of water and from 15 feet below the surface all the way to the bottom.  Scattered fish meant that a little more than half of the boats entered brought their 9 'eyes to the scale.
Team Storm Warning II managed to bring 9 to the weigh in and took a few extra home for the fryer.  Unfortunately, our 9 fish were totally comprised of the banner 2003 year class and averaged a scant 3.5#.  Hard to win an event like this without a "kicker" or two.
Here is the final top 10.  Standard 10 points per fish scoring along with 1 pt. per pound.

Here are the big fish for the tourney:  (Some of these teams look familiar???)

Here is team X-Kuz-Me II with a VERY impressive 54.55# box.  They blew second place out by a good margin.

Great time had by all despite some heavy wave conditions.  We look forward to more good times and more quality fish in August when hopefully some of you guys on this site will come down and fish with us in the 3rd Annual EPSFA Walleye & Steelhead Pro Am August 2-3 at the Port of Erie, PA

I never got into tourney fishing. 6am isnt my idea of a starting time...I like going out in the dark.  I am donating a nice set of Okuma rods and reels to the August Tourney, just not fishing it.  Im not into fishing for money, I enjoy fishing for the fun, and the chase.  I do however support the EPSFA and their efforts in providing a quality organization for Erie fishermen.  I may enter the walleye challange next year...I do catch alot of fish...lol just not alot of big ones.

I may set a team up with tackle though and let them have at it and see what this stuff can do in August.  If your interested let me know.

Moxie Man is the first on the lake everyday CB and he fishes the tournament, its about more then just competeing for money man. You meet some really great people who share the same interest you do. I just treat it like any other day of fishing nothing more nothing less. Fish as hard as I can and see where you stand after the smoke clears. We really appreciate you donating some stuff for the tournament. Its definately something I think most people enjoy, and its well organized tournament. Lots of hard work.... Starting at 630 doesnt matter, granted the crack of dawn bite isnt there but its more challenging starting later. I really hope someday you fish one, I think it will only take one to get you hooked man. There a blast.... Cant wait for the August tourney with the DEEEEEEP PROGRAM  and the steelies!!!! Hopefully they will be around crosses toes and fingers

It is a blast CB, even though I'm an afternoon fisherman I had a good time and the people are great. I work my a$$ off during the week so I like to sleep in and then relax in the afternoon fishing

Skip, I didnt know you were in the Challenge. What team were you on?

I am assuming all the DQ's were just crews that skipped the weigh in?

Fish the Pro Am.  That's when ALL the big boys come out.  NY, OH, and PA.  May even have a couple teams from across the border???

Pro Am is a month away and a 2 day tourney to prove your salt.  Not only two days, but you  have to boat 'eyes and steelies.  It has proven to be a big challenge for us to boat our silver fish on the second day the last 2 years.

...not a fan of the steelies.  Im a walleye guy.  I will be there in spirit and i hope one of you wins the set of Okuma Convector combos we have put together for the tourney.  Im not sure exactly what they are going to be used for, but good luck.

Didn't get into team of the year.  Don't want anymore "Member's Only" jackets. LOL

2nd trench was kind of vapor water on day two.  Day 1:  We pulled all of our steelies on south lip of 2nd, 50 to 60 down in about an hour and a half, all hanging just above the massive bait balls on the bottom.  Day 2:  Steelies weren't marking, they were actually "in" the bait balls.  Todd got 'em, we dragged over top of them at 3.0 to 3.3 GPS and only plucked 5 or 6# 'eye after 5 or 6# 'eye.  When the front blew in with cloud cover in the pm, switched over to some dark stuff and hooked up 3 steelies in the last 1/2 hr.  Lost about an 8#er at the back of the boat and caught 2 under the 18" minimum.  YUK!  At least in '06 we got the big fish of the tourney on day 2, just couldn't bag all our 'eyes.  Lost one a pound or two bigger on the exact same rod that caught the big fish 5 mins before we got the big one.

2 yrs. in a row, hero to zero on day 2.

I don't think that' gonna happen this year.
