When I tie princes, I use the dubbing ball in the back (just to split the biots, as mentioned), then I tie in a gold wire off the bend, then I tie in 3 strands of herl up front, twist it, and wrap it onto the hook going back toward the bend. Then, without tying it off, I secure it with 2 wraps of wire at the bend, then bring the wire back up to where I tied in the peacock. Trim the wire, trim the herl, wrap 2-4 turns of brown hen hackle as a collar, and finish. If I didnt use a bead head, I might include a dubbing head. Either black or brown, or for steelies, maybe a "hot spot" of bright orange, pink, purple, or chartreuse.
