Here is my first attempt at a bead head Prince Nymph..

I had to use a #12 streamer hook and I had no mylar wrap..

Couple questions.

What is the best hackle to use for the necks ?

When tying in the herl, does it matter how it lays when you tie it on or do you have to have the stem part in ?
Kinda tough wrapping 8 strands of herl without them twisting.

The small ball of brown dubbing that is on the tail, is it supposed to be big enough to raise the tail of the hook ?

Once again all criticism and help is greatly appreciated..

I like to use brown dry fly hackle, not very webby, but has always made a nice looking fly for me.
I tie in 4 or 5 long peacock herl fibers and a pice of green tying thread with it. then I pinch them with the hackle pliers and spin them until I have what looks like a very thin rope of peacock chenile. The tying thread keeps the peacock stems from breaking, which can happen easily if you don't use the thread. Honestly, my princes tied with peacock colored ice-dub seem to work as well as those tied with herl, and they're significantly easier.
I don't do a ball of brown dubbing, just a small tag or ruby colored thread. If you tie the biot tails in so that the natural curve is outward they don't stick together.

I havent tied a nymph in over 2 years. Tied some today for a guy. My pattern is a little different than the standard pattern you went by. But I must say. Yours looks very fishy. Very nice. I use partridge for the collar. I twist my herls together and wrap them on my thread and wrap the shank. I always rib with wire and wrap the wire the opposite way I do the body. By doing this it strenghtens the fly some. The small dubbing between the tail. I just make a thread ball back there. Just to split the biots. Thats all for me. Steelhead dont care.

Those'll catch nymph eating fish just fine.
I still tie them close to the original tie. (palmered hackle) and use fine wire like Swinga' mentioned. The wire will definitely help in durability.
2-3 herl. hen hackle palmered head to tail. tie the hackle down at the tail with the fine gold wire. spiral wrap the wire up to the head.
Cheap hen backs make nice soft hackle.
Arizona peacock dubbing also makes for a durable fly.

When I tie princes, I use the dubbing ball in the back (just to split the biots, as mentioned), then I tie in a gold wire off the bend, then I tie in 3 strands of herl up front, twist it, and wrap it onto the hook going back toward the bend.

Then, without tying it off, I secure it with 2 wraps of wire at the bend, then bring the wire back up to where I tied in the peacock.

Trim the wire, trim the herl, wrap 2-4 turns of brown hen hackle as a collar, and finish.

If I didnt use a bead head, I might include a dubbing head. Either black or brown, or for steelies, maybe a "hot spot" of bright orange, pink, purple, or chartreuse.

Looks good to me bings. Only thing i'd do different is to use hackle for the legs, but I doubt it would make a difference.

Round 2. Thank You----Roping the peacock herl made that task much easier...

Couple questions the first two flies are tied with a soft hen hackle palmered all the way..
Is this fly too full for a nymph ???

The next two I found some partridge and tried that for the legs...
Should you stick to the Classic design colors or like the red one can you mix and match a little on the colors ?

Seems I like to crowd the head and bead with my thread...Have to work on that....

Still puttin out some buggers here's the latest batch..
Got some orange beads and made some mini eggsucking leeches...

Bings, I love your flies and the pictures. I only have one question or statement, I hope this does not cut down on your walleye fishing. I love all the pictures you post for both walleye and stream fishing.

bings they look real good you might try tying with a thinner thread
if you are worried about build up as for the thread againest the bead
heck some i tied the bead poked out of the thread and i still caught fish on them
when i used them at hereford manor

You got the itch! Keep it rollin! I agree with fishenfool though, try some smaller diameter thread, you already nailed the basics and are more than ready to move on.

I like the mountain man goth fly too, he will appreciate that. lol
