I will be in Elk County on Saturday with my boys, ages 4 & 7. Looking for a good place to take the boys for trout. I do not fish, I just help them. Typically we go to the pumping station pond near Clear Creek State Park, but it has become somewhat crowded with college kids and adults. Anywhere else in that area that would be good for young ones just learning the skills? I would appreciate any suggestions. Feel free to send a personal message.

Thanks

Thanks Mike, and back to you.

The 7 year-old (aka "monk") is fairly self-sufficient. The 4 year-old is out for his first weekend at camp. He will be the challenge. A little crazy on the cast, I have to set up a safey zone around him. He has hooked me twice, no need for anyone else to suffer.

quietman, how about the small swimming pond in clear creek park. i know they stock it and you're aloud to fish it until memorial day i believe. i'm not sure how crowded though. also they stock the kids pond in cooks forest i believe.

my oldest is turning 5 in june and this will be his "first firstday" too.i cant wait!!!
i would have to reccommend the 10 and under area of little toby that runs through brockway. they put lots of big ones in there and i hardly ever see anyone fishing it.i guess its because the adults want to fish too?the sportsmans club always dumps a bunch of extras in there the day before first day.

mikeg, my oldest son got his first rod when he was two, his younger sister got hers at 18 months.  I started buying gear for the youngest boy before he was born.

The only difference is that my wife already knew I was crazy.  Good luck to all taking the kids out sat.,

i grew up fishin cook's forest childrens pond until i turned 12. i loved it as a kid so i know your kids will.  just use proper etiquitte and your kids will learn from it.  one other thing- if your kid is too young to cast or set the hook on a fish in, he probably should not be fishing there.  but hey that's just my opinion seen some people pretty pissed off about parents casting and setting the hook for their child.  luck to all

Mikeg,
You just may have saved your son from a lot grief later on in his life by introducing him to the outdoors now. And who knows, with a lot of patience, understanding & smiles you just could be raising the next Al Linder, Kevin Van Dam or Larry Dalberg or just a son who will NEVER forget his father took him fishing. CONGRATS to you and all the other fathers on this board that are making a difference in their sons & daughters lives. And happy birthday to your son
Tom

Hello all, Its nice to read others are totin their youngins out for some good times. Many of my days out with the little fellars are spent baitin, retreiving snags, retreiving tree shots, retying tackle, attempting to keep them dry as long as possible, and trying to keep em interested when the bite is off and those rocks are lookin pretty fun to chuck in the water. Definitely not complaining because I really enjoy it. I keep doing all this to because when the fish are on the kiddies are loving it. Last april my then  2 1/2 yeare old landed an 18 inch prespawn L/M. wHAT A HOOT TO SEE HIM LIGHT UP SO MUCH OVER THAT FISH. just this past friday was outfished by my 5 year old, The score was 2 bass to 1. He thinks he is the master now. Thats what its all about for me. So Ill keep detangling lines and saving snags just for days like those. no matter what the fishing day was like they always come home smiling cause they got to go fishin with daddy.

I agree with Steelys
I took my 7-year old on 1st day, I didnt really get to fish until he got his limit, My 5 Year old daughter wanted to go too, but the only requiremnt to go with daddy is they have to know how to cast, she isnt htere just yet. But what a joy to see my son hooked on fishing he had a blast me too, any all the guys around us wathcing him. We just got to a good spot early on 1st day and waited
Jim
