Status: offline 		early this year it was posted they were catching lg walleye at the mouth of bull creek some as large as 12 pounds
i just wanted to know if any body caught a truely 12 lber in allegheny river this year i know there are some there we caught several over 27inches nothing neer 10 lbs let alone 12 so please let me know of your largest walleye this year

Status: offline 		im up river a lil more kittanning area, and ive saw a few over the 10# mark  most being caught near the dams and powerplat..  i havent ever got one over 4# let alone 10 or 12. most are the lil 14 inch dinks and it seems that there is so many of them what happens to them.

if they would throw them back there would be more larger ones to brag about

Status: offline 		A 12 lb. river walleye is gonna be a VERY large fish...at least around 34". I caught a Lake Erie walleye that was a little over 30", and it weighed out at 9 lbs. on a digital scale, which I check out with exact weights every once in a while to make sure it's accurate.

This year, I've caught quite a few walleyes over 24", but all were under 30", at various places on the Allegheny.

!2 lb. river walleyes? Sure there's a few around....very few! I'd like to see one that was weighed by someone and not just guestimated, That would be a true river trophy indeed! Hell, a 10 lber. would be a true river trophy for that matter! Conditions in a river are tough for walleyes to live long enough to get to those sizes.

Status: offline 		12lbers are gonna be rare, and i would say they aren't even common on lake erie for the most part. The allegheny river has given me many many nice walleyes and nice meaning 4 to 7lb. I've only caught one over 10lb and that was 9 years ago. It went 31.5 and 10.75lb on the scale,. The best chance of getting a big eye would probably be during the spring or fall around the dams. The walleye tend to migrate as far north as they can and hang out for the winter til they spawn in the spring. Big walleyes also want big bait, chubs and suckers as large as you can get and dont expect alot of action. Fishing at night may be the better time, big fish tend to feed at night even in the fall and winter. Good luck!

at the very bottom is the table for walleye.  4 of the top 5 walleye  that got registered last year were from the allegheny river.  All over 12 pounds and none of them were 34".... all 30 and 31".

Status: offline 		If i could figure out how to get pics up. My old man caught a monster walleye 2 summers ago. Highland park pullin harness's. Didnt get it weighed or measued but it was by far the biggest marble eyes i have ever seen. Taruentum down to highland park we get good number of 6 to 10 lbs walleye every year and i have seen many bigger eyes caught than wat you guys are leading to. there are more big walleyes in the river than wat you guys are leading to. But hey thats fine wit me. More hawgs for me and my crew.

   Usualy it's the guys that don't catch many, that brag when they finaly do get lucky. The guys that are catching big fish are sure as hell not going to invite the public to thier spot. You should know that by reading some of these posts.Also many of the big ones are caught at night & not many people see them. That said, there are some lunkers caught every year from Pitts. to Kittanning. Most of the one that I have seen or heard about, are caught in the winter near creek mouths on jigs.  sam

Status: offline 		Caught this one about 6 years ago in the fall. Measured 32" not sure about the weight it was heavy though. These pics were scanned onto the computer by my Brother in law. Not sure why the one is so grainy but they're both of the same fish.

Status: offline 		I haven't been down there in a year or two, but at that time you were able to drive down besides the train tracks. I've never again experienced fishing down there like we did in 03. That fish was the start of it. We were down there every week for about 5 weeks after that, hammaring the walleyes in the same spot. None were as big as that one. We would go through about 5 dozen minnows in 2-3 hours catching one walleye after another. They all averaged about 17-22". I swear the smallest one we caught in that 1 month period was 15".

Status: offline 		I caught one that weighed 10.1 lbs, measured 31.5 ", came out of the Allegheny just South of Tidioute. Weighed on a certified scale at a small store along Rt 62.....Man I wish I still has the pic of that thing, lost it when my last computer crashed.

Have seen several caught larger than that one....Odd thing is that most of the anglers catching these large fish were targeting bass, not walleye, LOL.

Status: offline 		few that have been caught in that where big fish  that i know about where on 5 inch plus rapala and bommer type lures. fish near a local dam.. know of 3 or 4 guy that are down there alot its kinda hard to get to and its a close as you can get to the dam..

Status: offline 		I talked a guy who claims he caught some monsters..12-14lbs in feb, using lizard baits. He said the walleye eat the mud puppies that show up to eat their eggs during the spawn.

Just for the record, NONE of those weights or measurements for ANY of those listings have been verified in any way whatsoever. It's all based on the honor system....

Just sayin'....a 12 lb. "river" walleye is gonna be a pretty big fish. The 30"er I caught last year was pretty fat and weighed only 9 lbs...... 3 lbs. more would be a lotta walleye packed into 30"

Status: offline 		Don-- a 30" fish may weigh 8-9# in the summer, but come late fall through pre spawn that same fish could easily weigh 12-13#. There is a big difference in pre-spawn and post-spawn weights.

I witnessed a 32" 13# fish caught on the lower allgheny a few years ago. That is the only one of these monsters I have seen firsthand. I have heard of 14 pounders being caught in the river, although I have never seen hard evidence to this. One of the local bait shops weighs a fair number of 10#+ fish throughout the year.
