Gentlemen,
Well in about 4 months it will be "One Fly" time and I'd like to just let those who are interested in supporting/helping out that I'm open for volunteers.
I'm going to need:
Someone to organize the Night Before Dinner:
Tim; you did a great job last year. If you
Want to do it again, the job is yours.
Someone to help Skip organize the cooking and help.
We may have 76 folks this year so Skip may need
some help.
Someone to handle getting out the announcements and
publicity. I'll send posters to the lucky vol.
I have someone in mind. I hope he volunteers
Someone to help me with sign ins and scoring.
Dano, you interested?
Someone to handle the donated prizes and organizing
them. Prefer somebody in Erie.

And I'd like to know if there is any fly tyer who would like to donate 76 identical flies for the fly give away. Bughawk and my grandson have done it before. And Brandon can do it again if no talented tyer is interested.

I'm also planning on reducing the number of door prizes and trying to make them bigger and better.
Also, if anybody wants to donate anything to be given away please contact me.
I'll be posting the sign-up sheet about the 1st of next month.
The date will be: Oct 10th Columbus day weekend.

Does anybody have any thoughts / suggestions?
Remember this is your event. I just do the set up. We eat what you bring and give away what you donate.

Inds... What is the "One Fly"?  Maybe you can explain it better so people like me that have never heard of it would know what it is... Like where it is located and other details..Thanks....

Basic version... it's a rendezvous of people who share a love for fishing and fly fishing. Great way to get to meet people and to have a friendly competition. You get to use "one fly", you fish until you lose your fly. The person who catches the most total inches of fish wins a sweet bamboo rod that Jack builds.

Probably Girard Borough Park... but there were talks of it moving. You'll have to wait for Jack to get back on to answer that one.

BIGSLICK,
Like Tim explained it is a rendevous type of get-together that I organize each Columbus Day Saturday. There are two man fly fishing teams and each person gets to use only one fly (their choice) hence the name. There is no entry fee and everything that is given away is donated by folks who believe in the sport of fly fishing for steelhead. It started about 7 years ago with myself and a couple friends and with the help and encouragement of some very good people has become a fixture of steelheading in Erie.
I restore an antique bamboo fly rod for the winner, and donate an antique fiberglass rod to the 2d place peson. (not necessarily team mates) we have a class for the women, and a class for kids under 16. We usually get some pretty sweet prizes donated (like one of skips rods) or a guided fishing trip, or flies or just gear. And usually there is enough food that we all gain 3 pounds at dinner. Last year we had a beautiful plateware set donated to the top female, and a complete rod set-up for the junior winner.
People just treat it as a get-together to meet old friends and make new friends. Dano and I usually have some old bamboo on hand, and there is just about every type of fly gear imaginable there that people use and will probably let you try. Maybe we can get all the bamboo rod holders to bring theirs for a display? ? ?
I'm thinking of having an accuracy casting competition this year during lunch. I already have the prize figured out: a plaque, with a target on it with a fly stuck in the bullseye.
Tim? Are you doing the Night Before? The Night Before is when we try to get together at a nice resturant to meet & greet and BS on Friday night. Pay as you go.
It has turned into a very nice time so far and with the help of many good folks I hope it will continue.

BTW we are still shooting for Girard boro park pavillion. Unless we can somehow get a better place with more overhead cover and room. Any ideas?

jack, i would be more than willing to help dano and skip in the pavillion again, though i did little to help.  i am bringing name tags this year.  we can fill them out while registering.  i don't have to fish, but brian made me buy a new 7wt to use.  with that rod in my hands, there could be injuries this year.

have you heard from schlemoc?  sure could use his expertise with the patches again.

i doubt if i can make it the night before.  have to work, of all things.  what a load of crap.

let me know what i can do.  also, we need pagers for gizmos and mikastorm.  gotta get them dudes to dinner on time this year

I would very much be interested in participating. I've heard (read) "One Fly" being tossed around quite a bit here and think it sounds like a blast.

Are there going to be sign-ups for to-do lists?

Rap you will NOT want to use that rod for steel. BUT I will be sure to pack at least 1 other appropriate rod for you to use. Something in graphite, 7-9 wt. 9-10 feet long. I told you to let me know when you are free and to find a trout stream near you and I'll come up and we'll fish.

Harry,
There will be a big sign in sheet coming sometime in August with all the activities listed so people can list what they are bringing as for food, donations, or just bringing themselves. I'll never turn anybody away if they don't bring something. The important thing is to participate.

jack, i bought a new 7wt, 9.6 fly rod, put a new rio salmon-steelhead line on my new l.a reel in preparation for this years event.  as said, worm waster made me buy it.  was not allowed to cross the border into pa without it.  hope we can spend a few hours fishing together at the one fly, or afterwards.

I think getting to put more faces with all these names we know from the board is a big treat too!

The night-before sounds like great fun too. Like "After the Catch", only more like "Before the Attempt to Catch"...

I'd be interested in tying the flies. They won't be perfect but at least they'll be identically not perfect. Any ideas as to what pattern?

gentlemen,
since I posted the idea of having a casting accuracy skills (for fun) competition during lunch I have recieved some very positive feed back. So, how many of you would like to have such an event? Also, someone bring the horse shoes and pins.
